T3 Week 7 - Cross Country, Inquiry & Straw Rockets

Down in the jungle where nobody goes
There's a great big crocodile washing his clothes
With a rub-a-dub here and a rub-a-dub there
That’s the way he washes his clothes

Chorus
Tiddly-i-ti, boogie woogie woogie
Tiddly-i-ti, boogie woogie woogie
Tiddly-i-ti, boogie woogie woogie
That's the way he washes his clothes (change)

Down in the jungle when nobody’s see
There's a huge hairy monkey scratching his  fleas.
With a scratch-scratch here and a scratch-scratch there
That’s the way he scratches his fleas.
Chorus

Down in the jungle when nobody hears
There's a fine young elephant cleaning her ears.
A flippety-flap here and a flippety-flap there
That’s the way she’s cleaning her ears
Chorus

Down in the jungle, it made me turn pale
I saw a long snake who was wiggling his tail.
With a wiggle-wiggle here,
And a wiggle-wiggle there,
That’s the way
He wiggles his tail
Chorus

T3 W2 - New Playground, Information Reports

This week we started looking at writing our own information reports.  In our research groups we read a short book about an animal and then we recorded all the facts we could remember.  After we shared them with each other, we grouped them in categories (diet, habitat, appearance, interesting facts).

We also wrote some fabulous acrostic poems about the rainforest.  Make sure you come and checkout our amazing writing gallery in class.

Week 6 - Author Mark Sommerset, Grandparents' Day

Wow! What a jam-packed four days we've had!  We were off to a great start with NZ author Mark Sommerset coming to talk to us and share some of his fantastic stories.  You may know some of his titles (Baa Baa Smart Sheep, Cork on the Ocean, Two Little Bugs).

Thursday marked the beginning of Matariki, the maori new year.  We have heard several stories about the 7 stars that mark the new year.  We had so much fun creating our art pieces. Make sure you come in and check them out!

Thank you to all the Grandparents who managed to pop in on Friday morning.  It was so wonderful to see the children sharing their learning with you.  There was a lot of excitement in the air.

T2 W3 - Pink Shirt Day, Oat the Goat

Today we ended Bullying Free Week with Pink Shirt Day.  It was wonderful to see the whole school dressed up in pink showing their support for Bullying Free Week.  We read Oat the Goat as mentioned in Ms Adamson's newsletter and talked about how to be a good friend and what we could do if he we found ourselves in his position.

Earlier this week, we had a special guest speaker from Kids Can visit us and talk about what they do.  Did you know that they fee approximately 32 000 children a week?

T2 Week 2 - Measuring, Lemons and Mother's Day

This week, we continued our descriptive writing starting with a whole class language experience tasting lemons.  Scroll through the slides to see some of our reactions! From there we brainstormed all sorts of vocabulary to describe them - sour, zesty, stinging, golden, sweet, citrus, squeezed.

Over the past few weeks we have been looking at measuring length in non-standard units.  Last week we used paper clips and cubes, this week we used the width of our hands.  First we estimated the length of objects then measured them to see how accurate we were.

Week 10 - Guest Speaker, Inquiry Projects and Commonwealth Games

The end of term snuck up on us very quickly.  We had a busy week trying to complete our group inquiry projects.  Scroll through to see the finished products.  We have loved learning about human organs this term and it really shows in our independent inquiry.

Thank you to Maneesh for coming in and teaching us a little more about some of the organs. We found it fascinating.

It is with great sadness we bid farewell to our dear Hibah.  We have loved your energy and enthusiasm in the classroom.  We will miss you lots but know that you will have a fantastic time at your new school.  All the best, Hibah!

Week 9 - Commonwealth Games!

This week in Room 10 we have started our own mini class Commonwealth Games.  We've been split up into 6 countries and have already started participating in fun events such as speedy spelling, skip counting races and much more.  Some of us have even tried to learn more about our countries at home.  We look forward to continuing on with our games next week.

On Thursday,  Liu Lasohi and Yu Laoshi showed us how to do Chinese calligraphy.  We practised writing our numbers to 10.

Week 8 - Character Descriptions, Stomach Experiment, Easter

This week we have begun inquiring into our own organ of choice. No doubt you have started hearing interesting facts about the gall bladder, kidneys, large intestines and bladder.   Over the next week we will be working in small groups to answer the questions we have created about our organ.  We will then present it and teach the class about what we have learnt. This might be in the form of a song, book, diorama or poster. Watch this space!

Week 7 - A Visit from Dr James

This week we were lucky enough to have Dr James come in and talk to us about our organs as part of our inquiry unit.

Week 6 - Constable Gordon, Mystery Reader, Heart Inquiry
Wow! What a busy week in Room 10! This week, we have been working alongside Constable Gordon to learn how to cross the street and walk on the path safely.  On Friday, we were luckily enough to go for a ride in his patrol car! We also learnt about seatbelt safety and how to sit in a moving car.

In Mandarin, Liu Laoshi taught us how to count to 10 in Mandarin.  Here are the numbers if you want to practise alongside with us.

During Inquiry, we delved into the heart.  We have been learning to listen and find keywords that help us understand a bit more about the topic.

On Friday, Sam's brother, Yaz came to read to us as our Mystery Reader.  What a wonderful treat!  Thanks Yaz.

Scroll through the pics to check out what we've been learning this week.

Week 5 - Mystery Reader,  Paper Bag Lungs

This week in Room 10 we have been busy learning about the lungs.  Lungs help us breathe.  We learnt that oxygen goes into our bodies, down our windpipe and into our lungs.  Inside our lungs are tree-like bronchioles. Here are some of the paper bag lungs we made.

We were also lucky enough to have our 3rd mystery reader.  The wonderful Mrs Bridgeman! She came in to read us a story about cheeky Scarface Claw.  I wonder who will be visiting us next week?
